Women facing challenges February 8, 2012
Debbie Johnson , The CasketField visits are a critical part of our funding process. Before we make a funding decision, one of our trusted Field Representatives will visit the organization to assess its ability to implement programmes, its connection to the community and its financial accountability systems. The field visit is also an important opportunity to build a relationship with the organization and foster an open, trusting and responsive partnership.
Throughout the visit, the Field Representative will meet with programme staff and members of the board, as well as conducting one-on-one meetings with beneficiaries. They look at the organization’s leadership structure and governance, review financial management systems and evaluate the proposed budget and project proposal. Part of each visit also includes trips into the community to see the organization’s work first-hand.
We also conduct periodic assessment visits with existing partners, and work to build their capacity and facilitate meaningful exchanges and connections between the organizations we fund.
The Stephen Lewis Foundation relies on the expertise of several African and Africa-based consultant Field Representatives, who act as our eyes and ears on-the-ground. Each of them has extensive experience working with community-based HIV/AIDS initiatives.
